Hutker Architects designed the Dune House on the beautiful island of Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts. The island is a popular summer retreat for the privileged few and those seeking peace and quiet. With its washed-up timber appearance, the house blends seamlessly into its surroundings. The lines of the roof terrace echo the contours of the dune landscape. A sliding box provides access to the roof terrace of this beach house.
Custom sliding roof access
The Sliding Box is a completely custom-designed rooflight. This electrically operated sliding skylight provides access to the spacious terrace, while also providing the home with additional natural light. The roof terrace features a built-in lounge sofa and a freestanding bathtub with stunning views of the dunes and the ocean. The roof access offers optimal thermal performance and excellent insulation. The motors are concealed within the frame, creating a beautiful Sky Only View.
Using materials such as glass, concrete, wood and bronze, the house reflects its surroundings.
