Northern Lights for Outdoors

This amazing house has the Daylight Award Sunlight and views play a major role in the dike house in the Groene Hart region. The abundance of daylight inside reinforces the feeling of being part of the landscape: a "room-in-a-view." A professor spent years searching for an optimal place to live and work. He analyzed promising locations with Mirck Architecture.

Large skylight for Northern Lights

The search ends on a quiet dike with a sublime view. A large open-plan living space sits above the dike, overlooking the water. The southwest-facing workspace flows through a large skylight into the north-facing kitchen/diner. The panoramic southwest-facing space transforms into a north-facing conservatory. The bedroom is secluded behind two old Chinese doors. Sliding doors open onto this intimate space, facing the setting sun. From the bed, a panoramic window offers a view of the nature reserve across the water.
