Explanation: skylight in the ridge of the saddle roof
In this article, we'll show you the various options for the Ridgelight, from standard sizes to a larger version with an aluminum connection.
Incorporate the attic into your home and transform it into a pleasant living space. Or make the most of the room's height. A key requirement is sufficient daylight. Unlike a flat or sloped roof skylight, the Ridge Skylight has two glass sides connected by a unique glass-to-glass connection. This eliminates visible framework.
How does a skylight in the ridge work?
To ensure the skylight is installed waterproof and minimizes the visible frame from the inside, it will sit on a raised edge. Have this raised edge installed beforehand by a contractor and/or roofer.
- A riser is at least 150mm high
- The upstand is placed around the recess, perpendicular to the roof
- The outside of the upstand is completely covered with roofing
During installation, the skylight is placed and secured over the upstands with a crane, acting as a lid. The opening can be neatly finished from the inside with plaster, drywall, or another material. From the inside, there's the Sky Only View. The two sides are connected glass-to-glass with a silicone joint. This creates a minimalist look.
Below you can see the principle of the uprisings.

Standard or modular?
The principle for installing a Ridgelight is the same: it always extends over the upstands. The dimensions determine whether this skylight can be manufactured in a standard manner or whether it is modular.
We explain this below.
Standard size: the most cost-effective solution and with one-piece sides
It's most cost-effective to design products so that they remain within the standard design. The following applies:
- a maximum width of 2000 mm
- a maximum length per side of 3000 mm
- a maximum surface area per side of 5.2 m2
- an angle of inclination of 10-50 degrees

A longer Skylight Ridge with aluminum connections and multiple glass sections next to each other
Would you like a longer skylight in the ridge? That's also possible by dividing the side into multiple glass sections and connecting them with an aluminum T-profile. This profile can run flush above the existing beams in the ridge structure. This customization costs extra because it requires custom design and production cannot be carried out according to standard methods. The advantage is that you can design very long skylights.
