Tip 1: Install the skylight as flat as possible in the roof

To ensure a watertight connection for the skylight, a 150mm high upstand is required. By recessing this into the roof structure with a concealed gutter, the skylight sits as level as possible in the roof.

The skylight covers the upstand like a lid, providing a watertight seal (if properly installed).

Please note: the skylight is made of real glass and is therefore quite heavy. We never install a skylight from the inside, but always from the outside using a crane. We assume that the upstand has been prepared (by a third party) before we install the skylight. The zinc is not included with the window.

The tiled roof will be almost level with the skylight. This is also possible with a slate roof.

The example below clearly shows the effect of a large skylight in a sloped roof. Because the upstand extends beyond the recess, there's no frame visible from the inside, unlike with traditional skylights. A fantastic, minimalist effect.

Tip 2: Use a modular skylight for even more daylight

A single-piece skylight can be quite large, depending on the length-to-width ratio. By working with modular skylights, where glass sections are connected with a slim aluminum T-profile, you can practically go as large as you like. The beauty of it is that from the inside, there's always a Sky Only View: no unsightly frames or window frames visible. As an architect, you can truly design with daylight.

Tip 4: Use an electric sunshade/blackout

In summer, it can get quite hot under a sloped roof. Our skylights can be fitted with custom-made electric sunshades. These keep the heat and sun out. The sunshades discreetly protect you from sunlight. The sunlight is filtered by the special fabric, allowing you to still look outside through your skylight during the day. This preserves the spacious feel of the skylight. The fabric acts as a true thermal shield, blocking up to 97% of the heat, while the micro-perforated screen allows light to enter your home.

Up to approximately 3m², the skylight can even be fitted with a completely blackout fabric. This is useful in a bedroom. This fabric is considerably heavier, so it's not suitable for larger skylights.

The awnings are electrically operated. You can choose whether you want a remote control or connect the system to your home automation system, such as Google Home.
