Waterproof installation of walk-on glass

To install walk-on glass waterproof, two aspects are important:

WATER SHOULD NOT BE LEFT ON THE GLASS FOR A LONG TIME

Leaks often occur when water sits on the glass for extended periods. There might be a leak in the glass, water might seep between the glass and the frame, or the glass might be placed in a bowl, preventing water from draining off.
SolutionThe walk-on glass is flush-mounted in the aluminum frame and sealed with a silicone seal. This not only ensures watertightness but also prevents cold bridges because the system is thermally broken.
ResultNo heat loss. – Water cannot penetrate the glass panels from the sides as with traditional systems. – It's a ready-made product, so no structural measures are required.

WATER MUST NOT BE ALLOWED TO ACCUMULATE ON THE ROOF

Besides rainwater falling from the sky onto the glass, water can also accumulate on a roof during periods of heavy rainfall. It's crucial to have a proper water management system on your roof. Roofs are usually built with a slight slope, and proper drainage through the gutter is essential.
SolutionBy placing the walk-on glass on a raised surface with sufficient height, you ensure that no leakage occurs due to water remaining on the roof.
Result: With a 150mm upstand, the glass is waterproof. The skylight extends over this. The skylight's thickness can be found in the technical drawing. By making the rest of the terrace level with the top of the glass, a nice, flush connection is created. This can be done with tile supports, bottom rails, or other support and raising systems that protect the roof's water-repellent layer. A small gutter, a few millimeters thick, between the terrace and the glass is necessary to drain the water.
